Treatment

Person Centred Therapy (PCT) is a personal growth model, referred to as non-directive therapy, and is the most widely known and practiced approach within the counselling field.

PCT is based on the humanistic philosophy that every individual has an underlying tendency to find their own resolve for a more satisfying way of being and living their lives. The Actualising Tendency is an inner human resource that is constructive, and directional, motivating us to become our own best authority and reach our full personal potential through self awareness.

Mental Health Professionals who practice this approach theoretically create a therapeutic environment that is conformable, non-judgmental and empathetic, harnessing the self healing process. In essence, counselling offers clients the opportunity to develop their self awareness and thus the self direction key to moving forward from the psychological distress compromising their wellbeing.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often abbreviated to CBT. CBT is a type of talking therapy, which looks at our thoughts (cognitions) and behaviours. It focuses on how ?what we think? and ?what we do?, is linked to our physical and emotional wellbeing. It works on the basis that by making changes to the way in which we think and respond to situations, we can positively affect our emotions.

Hypnotherapy attempts to address the subconscious mind, using the power of suggestion for beneficial change. A hypnotherapist uses hypnosis to give relevant, positive beneficial suggestions to help a person bring about the change they desire. Although hypnotherapy is not the same as sleep (the individual will still have awareness and control), hypnotherapists often require the person to be deeply relaxed to enable them to use their imagination fully. For this reason, it?s imperative that the person feels completely comfortable with their hypnotherapist. Hypnosis is a different state of consciousness from being awake or asleep, and many people compare the deep, relaxed state of hypnosis to daydreaming.
